Interactive comment on “The role of alkalinity generation in controlling the fluxes of CO2 during exposure and inundation on tidal flats” by P. A. Faber et al

چکیده

This paper reports an experiment of using “artificial” sediments (mixed and DOM enriched) to simulate DIC and Alk fluxes (during inundation) and CO2 flux (during exposure) from subtidal mudflats. The authors also used an early diagenetic model to interpret and simulate the experiment output. (the latter is the focus of this paper) They found that CO2 flux (to atm during exposures) is generally less than DIC flux to the overlying water (during inundations), and this is particularly true when Alk production is high under high Fe(III) scenario. I think the subject is important and is broadly interesting to the readers of BG. It also has implications in whether benthic fluxes are

Modeling in Early Stages of Technology Development: Is an Iterative Approach Needed?; Comment on “Problems and Promises of Health Technologies: The Role of Early Health Economic Modeling”

A recent paper by Grutters et al makes the case for early health economic modeling in the development of health technologies. A number of examples of the value of early modeling are given, with analyses being performed at different stages in the development of several non-drug health technologies. This commentary acknowledges the contribution of the paper by Grutters et...

P-104: Effects of Prenatal Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields on Fertility of F1 Generation in In Vitro

Background: Electromagnetic fields interact with human tissues and may have adverse effects on fertility and reproduction. During the last decades there has been a growing concern on the effects of electromagnetic radiations on biological systems in general. Radiation risks from electromagnetic fields generated by processes such as reduced fertility and a significant decrease in implantation ra...

Some Notes on Critical Appraisal of Prevalence Studies; Comment on: “The Development of a Critical Appraisal Tool for Use in Systematic Reviews Addressing Questions of Prevalence”

Decisions in healthcare should be based on information obtained according to the principles of Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM). An increasing number of systematic reviews are published which summarize the results of prevalence studies. Interpretation of the results of these reviews should be accompanied by an appraisal of the methodological quality of the included data and studies. The critical a...
